Doosan NHP Horizontal Machining Center Financing:
Pallets, Throughput and Utilization.
Horizontal machining, pallet systems and production-cell costs documented without assumed financing terms.
iLease Capital is an equipment finance broker arranging financing for new and used Doosan and DN Solutions NHP horizontal machining centers through institutional funding partners. Send the exact machine, seller quote and included equipment so we can review the proposed purchase. Availability, eligible costs and terms depend on the machine, borrower and transaction; a family name is not an approval.
The NHP horizontal machining-center family combines pallet-based workholding with horizontal cutting. A buyer may be adding repeat production, replacing existing capacity or reorganizing setups. The financing request should identify the actual machine, pallets and automation, then explain the acquisition budget. Expected utilization is useful business context, not a special underwriting program that guarantees a longer term.
The horizontal is a production decision
An NHP purchase often involves more than comparing spindle specifications. Pallets, fixtures, access for setup and the workpieces you want to process define the useful package. A pallet changer can let preparation take place outside the cutting area, but the time saved depends on the actual job. Ask for a process demonstration rather than assuming every horizontal runs continuously or replaces several vertical machines.
Separate automatic pallet exchange from unattended production. A machine with two pallets still needs appropriate fixtures, tools, process control and a safe operating plan. Tool life, inspection requirements and chip management can interrupt production even when pallet exchange works correctly. Price the equipment needed for the intended operation before using projected unattended hours in a purchase justification.
A funding partner may ask how any machine purchase fits the business, whether it is a horizontal or vertical. For an NHP, an explanation of existing work, customer concentration and realistic startup costs can provide context. It does not replace financial review, establish an approval or guarantee a particular payment. Keep confirmed orders distinct from estimates and hoped-for capacity utilization.
Pallets, the APC and unattended running
For the selected NHP model, confirm the automatic pallet changer, the supplied pallet count and the setup station. The manufacturer distinguishes pallet sizes and generations across its horizontal range. Do not assume that a common family name fixes every option. A demonstration should show the actual exchange and clamping functions rather than only an animation or brochure description.
List the pallets that are included and any proposed extra fixtures or automation. A seller may offer a machine with its base pallets while retaining the tombstones shown in photographs. A pallet-pool extension is a separate compatibility and purchase-scope question. Ask the dealer or integrator to confirm that the exact machine supports the proposed extension before including its cost in a financing request.
Document pallet dimensions for the exact model and generation. The NHP 4000 and NHP 5000 names refer to different-size machines, but a model number should not be translated directly into a universal pallet dimension. In particular, check the NHP 5500 specification rather than assuming its pallet is larger than an NHP 5000 pallet. Workpiece weight and interference limits are separate figures to verify.
It is also worth being clear about the difference between the pallet changer and a larger pallet pool, because the two often get blurred on a quote. The automatic pallet changer is the standard two-pallet swap that comes with the machine. A pallet pool is an extension that stages more pallets so the machine can cycle through several jobs with far less intervention, which is how shops reach genuine lights-out or near-lights-out running. If your purchase includes a pool, say so explicitly, because it changes both the value of the asset and the production case behind the deal.
Structure and the B-axis
The NHP design includes features intended to support horizontal machining and coolant containment. A used-machine inspection still has to establish the condition of its bed, guideways, lubrication and moving systems. Construction features are relevant to suitability, but they do not establish resale depth or predict the underwriting treatment of the machine.
Spindle speed, power, torque and taper depend on the selected NHP configuration. Record the installed unit and the applicable duty rating rather than applying a headline speed across every generation. A high-speed spindle can be attractive for one job and unnecessary for another. Include documented service history and the intended tooling interface in the purchase review.
The B-axis presents different workpiece faces to the spindle, subject to the travel, control and fixture arrangement. Distinguish indexed positioning from any simultaneous-motion capability required by your process. Have a qualified operator demonstrate the actual functions. This capability can reduce setups in an appropriate process, but it does not guarantee higher output or a particular resale value.
Explain production plans without promising output
Build an operating budget that separates existing production from incremental work. If an NHP replaces a bottleneck, describe the constraint and the evidence behind the expected improvement. If it opens a new process, allow time for fixture development, programming and proving the job. A realistic plan is more useful than declaring a two-shift schedule that the current order book cannot support.
Utilization does not set the financing term. A funding partner reviews the borrower, machine, seller and requested structure and may ask for financial statements or other support. A long expected service life is not a promise of available terms. Compare offered payments against a conservative budget rather than treating future capacity as guaranteed cash available for repayment.
Where requested, provide confirmed purchase orders or repeat-work history and identify any cancellation or concentration risk. Forecasts should be labeled as forecasts. The business may still need cash for tooling, operators and material even if equipment financing is approved. Ask which acquisition costs are eligible and keep ongoing operating expenses out of the equipment scope unless specifically agreed.
Budget the commissioning period separately from mature production. The machine may arrive before fixtures, programs or operator training are complete. Deposits and supplier milestones may also fall before usable capacity exists. Align the proposed payment obligations with the written offer and cash you can support, not an assumed immediate return from the first shift.
Automation, pallet pools and fixtures as line items
An NHP can be acquired as a single machine or as part of a cell. Extra pallets, tombstones, dedicated fixtures, probing, conveyors and automation should be identified individually where included. Some are integral options and others are separately supplied items; do not label every component as a separate legal asset without checking the agreement. The quote should establish exactly what is being purchased.
This is especially important on a used purchase. A pallet pool or a bank of fixtures shown in a listing photo is sometimes excluded from the quoted machine price and tombstones and tooling can be priced apart. Have the seller state in writing which pallets, fixtures, tombstones, the probe, the chip conveyor and the tooling transfer with the machine, so the financed amount matches what will actually arrive on your floor.
Ask whether the proposed automation and installation can be considered alongside the horizontal. Integration costs, supplier contracts and acceptance conditions may require separate review. A larger package does not automatically have proportionately higher collateral value. Document the compatibility, ownership and delivery milestones so the funding partner can assess the actual request.
Inspecting a used NHP
Use a qualified technician for production-specific checks on a used NHP. The pallet exchange, receiver, clamping and relevant position measurements deserve attention because problems here can affect repeatability and setup. Review maintenance records and ask what tests the seller permits. Do not repeatedly cycle unfamiliar equipment or defeat safety devices as part of a self-directed inspection.
Put spindle hours alongside service and condition information. A documented repair may be useful evidence, but it does not by itself make a heavily used machine better collateral than a lower-hour example. Confirm the control generation and enabled functions, then ask a qualified operator to demonstrate the equipped axes and pallet system. Capture any unresolved alarms in the condition report.
Look hard at coolant and chip management, since that is where a hard-run horizontal shows its history. The NHP's double-wall design is meant to contain coolant and move chips, so inspect the chip conveyor, the coolant system and the enclosure for neglect. A machine that was expected to run unattended but was poorly maintained around coolant and chips is a different risk than one with a clean service record and it affects both the inspection and the value.
One more point that is specific to horizontals: confirm what pallets, tombstones and fixtures are actually included with the used machine before you build the number in your head. Because so much of a horizontal's productivity lives in its fixturing, a machine photographed with a full bank of tombstones can arrive with a bare pallet pair if the fixtures were never part of the deal. A Renishaw probe shown on the control is another item that can be present on some used examples and absent on others. Get the included scope in writing, verify the probe and any pool extensions on the machine and the inspection and the financing request will line up.
What an NHP costs
An NHP price comparison should match the model, generation, spindle, control and included pallet equipment. Quotes may differ because one includes fixtures or automation and another excludes them. Establish the budget from an itemized machine quote and separately priced cell equipment. Ask for a dated quote on the identified machine.
Allow for pallet tooling, replacement components, transport and site work when comparing the complete acquisition. An advertised machine price is not an appraisal or the net cash needed at closing. Asking prices shift with market conditions, call us at (866) 545-3273 for current pricing on a specific machine. Any payment illustration remains subject to the final equipment scope and approved terms.
How we structure an NHP deal
Discuss whether the request covers one machine or an integrated cell and identify the required supplier payments. Funding availability does not follow automatically from projected output. Ask which financial and equipment documents are needed and what remains outstanding before approval. The terms available for an older standalone horizontal may differ from those for a new cell.
If ownership is the objective, compare the obligations under an equipment finance agreement and any offered purchase-option lease. If a lease offers return or renewal choices, confirm their notice requirements and costs. Payment size alone is not a complete comparison. Review the complete terms with your advisers and confirm tax or accounting treatment with your CPA.
What to have ready
Prepare the builder name and exact model as shown on the machine plate, the year, the serial number, the installed control, the purchase price, the seller and the equipment location. For a new order, include the configuration sheet, the deposit schedule and the expected delivery date.
Then itemize the horizontal-specific configuration: pallet size, the automatic pallet changer and any extended pallet pool, the number of pallets, tombstones and fixtures, the B-axis table, spindle speed and power, probing, high-pressure coolant, the chip conveyor and any automation. Separate freight, rigging, installation and training when applicable, because rigging a horizontal is a real cost and lenders like to see it stated. A production horizontal is a heavy machine with a specific foundation and power requirement, so documenting the install scope up front also helps the deal close on the timeline you need to start cutting.
Bring an honest account of the intended work, but do not treat an estimated shift schedule as an approval condition or a guarantee of favorable terms. Some eligible requests may use an application-only process; others require more documentation. Identify confirmed demand, assumptions and working-capital needs separately. Ask for the actual requirements before committing to a nonrefundable purchase.
A note on credit
Before authorizing a credit inquiry for your NHP request, ask which inquiry will be made, what consent is needed and whether a full credit review may be part of final approval. Do not assume an equipment quote or initial conversation establishes credit terms. Your business profile, existing obligations, requested amount and the identified machine are reviewed together. If additional documents are needed, obtain that list before committing to the seller. All financing remains subject to credit approval.
Frequently asked questions
Does an NHP have to run two shifts to qualify for financing?
No such universal requirement is established here. Explain the intended work honestly and distinguish confirmed demand from forecasts. A funding partner may ask about operating plans for any machinery purchase, but utilization does not replace borrower and equipment review or guarantee a term.
Are an automatic pallet changer and a pallet pool the same?
No. A pallet changer exchanges the supplied pallets between positions; a larger pool stages additional pallets and requires compatible integration. Confirm the exact machine, pallet count and any extension before including it in the request. Two pallets alone do not establish an unattended production system.
Can fixtures and tombstones be considered with the NHP?
Ask for review of the itemized package and confirm what the seller includes. Photographs may show fixtures that will not transfer. Specify extra pallets, tombstones, probing and automation and obtain confirmation of compatibility. Associated services may be treated differently from the equipment.
What should I check about the NHP B-axis?
Confirm the actual positioning or motion capability, control options and fixture clearances needed for the intended work. Have a qualified operator demonstrate the equipped functions. Do not infer simultaneous capability, output or resale value simply from the presence of a rotary table.
Does a higher NHP number always mean a larger pallet?
Do not infer pallet dimensions from the name alone. Check the model and generation specification alongside permitted workpiece weight and interference limits. Two machines with different names may have capacities that cannot be compared by the model number alone.
How should I budget for a used horizontal cell?
Include the identified machine, included pallets, missing fixtures, transport, installation and commissioning. Separate seller-supplied equipment from planned additions and verify integration. A payment illustration should be based on this actual scope, not a promised throughput improvement or an unverified asking-price range.
How do I begin an NHP financing request?
Call (866) 545-3273 or use Apply Now with the seller quote, exact machine, control, pallet and automation details. Describe the intended work and identify assumptions. Ask which credit authorization, financial information and acceptance documents are required. No approval is implied by an initial discussion.
