The Agilent 8850 GC is Agilent's fast, compact and energy-efficient GC platform, designed to let more laboratories perform more methods and process more samples in a smaller footprint. Agilent has made the 8850 compatible with its single-quadrupole and triple-quadrupole mass spectrometers, so it can serve both as a standalone GC and as the GC front end for GC-MS. For a laboratory with limited bench space or energy-efficiency requirements, the 8850 can be a relevant current-generation choice. The Agilent Intuvo 9000 GC uses a different flow-path architecture from a traditional GC platform. Agilent designed the Intuvo around simplified column connections and a planar column format with capillary flow technology intended to make column installation and maintenance more efficient. That difference should be understood when a laboratory is comparing the Intuvo with an 8890, 8860 or 8850. The Intuvo is not simply another model number within an otherwise identical GC architecture. A laboratory operating an older 6890 may be considering a newer 7890-series system on the used market or a current 8860, 8850 or 8890.
