Tsugami Swiss Lathe Financing:
New and Used Precision Automatic Lathes.

From the 20 mm S205-II and S206-II through the SS, B and BW families, plus B-axis and LaserSwiss configurations. What lenders look at and how to structure it.

Tsugami's precision automatic-lathe lineup is unusually broad. The current Japanese product catalog spans 12 mm, 20 mm, 26 mm, 32 mm and 38 mm classes with independent opposed gang, conventional gang, back-spindle and B-axis configurations. For financing, the machine must be identified by exact suffix. A Tsugami S206-II, SS207-II-5AX, SS327-III-5AX and B0326-III are very different assets even when shops loosely call all of them "Tsugami Swiss." The U.S. Tsugami America lineup also uses familiar commercial names such as SS20, SS26 and SS32.

Understanding the Machine Lineup

S205-II and S206-II

Tsugami currently lists S205-II and S206-II as 20 mm precision automatic lathes. The S206-II is described in some materials as adding a back tool post with Y axis relative to the S205-II; this specific feature difference has not been independently confirmed on a current Tsugami spec page and should be verified before publication. Tsugami America also lists both in its current Swiss lineup.

SS20, SS26 and SS32

Tsugami America currently lists SS20, SS26 and SS32 Swiss-type machines. The Japanese catalog lists SS26/SS32 family equipment alongside newer SS267-III and SS327-III generations. The exact mapping between U.S. commercial naming and Japan-generation suffixes should be verified before purchase.

B012, B020, B026 and B032 Families

Tsugami's current catalog includes multiple 12 mm and 20 mm B-series machines plus B032-III series platforms. Tsugami America's current new-machine list shows B0125/0126, B0205/0206 and B0325-III/B0326-III configurations. B0265/B0266 exist as an earlier -II generation in the used market rather than on the current new-machine list.

B-Axis and 5-Axis Swiss

Tsugami America lists SS20MH-III-5AX, SS207-II-5AX, SS327-III-5AX and SS38MH-5AX. These machines add B-axis live-tool capability for contoured and complex parts.

BW Independent Gang Machines

Tsugami's current Japanese lineup includes BW series independent opposed gang machines across small and larger diameters. These high-tool-count configurations should be identified by exact model in a financing quote.

Current Machines vs. the Used and Secondary Market

Used Tsugami machines include prior S205/S206, B0205, B0326, SS20 and SS327 generations among many others. Tsugami's historical catalogs show that familiar model roots persist across revisions. Year-specific suffixes should be verified before stating a legacy generation as current.

The used buyer should focus on Fanuc control, main and back spindle condition, guide-bush setup, live-tool condition, tool count, bar feeder and any B-axis hardware.

Financing a New Machine

New Tsugami financing can range from a relatively simple small-diameter bar machine to a high-value B-axis Swiss with extensive live tooling. The quote should include the bar feeder, guide-bush package, high-pressure coolant, special tool units and software needed for the intended part family.

Financing a Used or Refurbished Machine

Used Swiss-type equipment is a normal part of the machine-tool market. The key is documenting the exact machine and its condition. Prepare the exact brand and model, serial number and year, control make, model and generation, maximum bar diameter and guide-bush configuration, main-spindle and sub-spindle hours when available, guide-bush, spindle and collet condition, live-tool and cross-working attachment condition, bar feeder make, model and condition, tooling and holders included, current running condition and alarm history, service records and known repairs, an inspection report or running video when available, and rigging, freight and installation quotes. Guide-bush condition, spindle condition, bar-feeder setup, live-tool condition and control generation can matter as much as the machine year. A running video or inspection report is particularly useful on a complex multi-axis Swiss machine.

Upgrading or Adding Capacity

Upgrades may move a shop from S205 to S206 complexity, from 20 mm into 32 mm capacity, or from fixed live-tool layouts into a B-axis 5AX platform. Explain the cycle-time, part-complexity, diameter or unattended-production reason for the change.

Buying From a Dealer, Auction or Another Shop

Used Swiss lathes are commonly bought from machine-tool dealers, auctions and other precision shops. Dealer transactions can be cleaner because the dealer may provide model information, video, inspection, bar-feeder details and rigging support. Auction financing should be addressed before bidding because payment and removal windows can be short. Direct shop-to-shop purchases can potentially be financed but ownership, liens, location, condition and serial number generally need additional verification.

Don't Forget Bar Feeders, Tooling, Workholding and Automation

A Swiss-type machine project can include much more than the lathe. Common supporting equipment includes a magazine bar feeder, guide-bush tooling, collets, carbide guide bushings, live-tool holders, cross-drilling attachments, thread-whirling units, high-pressure coolant, mist collection, chip conveyors, part conveyors, tool presetting, inspection equipment, CAD/CAM software, postprocessors, fire suppression where required, oil chillers, transformers, rigging, freight and installation. If the machine will not make the intended parts without those items, include them in the project quote.

Tsugami Generation and Architecture Deep Dive

Tsugami's Swiss lineup is best understood by architecture. The company offers opposed-gang machines, B-axis 5-axis machines and independent-gang-slide machines. That matters because a B0206-VR, S206-II, SS327-III-5AX and BW209Z may all be called Swiss lathes but they divide work between tools and spindles differently.

The B0206-VR is a current 20 mm opposed-gang machine described in some materials as six-axis. Tsugami America describes it as chucker convertible; specific capability such as Y2 back milling and a Fanuc 0i-TF Plus control have not been independently verified and should be confirmed on the current spec sheet before publication. Its earlier B0206-II and B0206-III generations appear widely in the used market. The generation suffix therefore matters because control, tooling and feature availability can change.

The S206-II is another 20 mm six-axis machine but it carries a different modular tooling concept; its control is described in some materials as Fanuc 32i-B, though this designation has not been independently verified and should be confirmed before purchase. Tsugami lists substantial live-tool capacity and Y-axis backworking so the main and sub spindle can perform overlapping work. A buyer should not assume a B0206 and S206 are interchangeable simply because both accept 20 mm stock.

Tsugami's B-axis machines move into a higher complexity class. Current listings include SS207-II-5AX, SS327-III-5AX and SS38MH-5AX. These machines add live tools on a B axis for contoured or angled work. That can be important in medical components where a shop wants to eliminate secondary milling or produce complex features in one setup.

The BW family uses independent gang slides and multi-path controls for highly simultaneous work. A BW209Z or BW329Z should therefore be evaluated as a production platform with multiple coordinated tool groups rather than as a basic gang-tool Swiss.

Tsugami also has two notable technology packages. Oscillation Cutting moves a servo axis to help break chips and is available on a long list of B, S, SS and BW machines. LaserSwiss integrates a fiber laser with selected Swiss platforms for combined machining and laser cutting or welding-related workflows. A LaserSwiss is a materially different asset from the same base machine without laser integration.

Why the Exact Tsugami Configuration Matters to a Lender

The lender should know the base model, generation suffix, control, axis count, guide-bush or chucker-convertible configuration and whether B-axis, Oscillation Cutting or laser integration is included. These features can change both acquisition price and the work the machine can win.

Condition review should include the sliding headstock, direct-drive or servo guide-bushing hardware where applicable, main and sub spindles, opposed gang slides, Y2 backworking, live tools and B-axis. For LaserSwiss equipment, laser source hours, enclosure, extraction and integration service history should be added to the normal machine inspection.

Control is also part of the used-market story. Current and recent Tsugami machines use different Fanuc generations including 0i-TF Plus, 32i-B and 31i-B5 class controls depending on model. The exact control affects programming workflow and should be recorded in the collateral description.

Building a Complete Tsugami Financing Package

Provide the complete model including generation suffix, serial number, year, Fanuc control, guide-bushing or chucker kit, main and sub spindle configuration, live-tool package, B-axis if present, Oscillation Cutting option, bar feeder, coolant and tooling. If the system is LaserSwiss, include laser source, power level, extraction, safety enclosure and integration package.

For used equipment, include spindle and live-tool testing, guide-bushing and headstock condition, service records, control backups, crash history when known and an inventory of modular toolholders. Include rigging, freight, installation, bar-feeder commissioning and laser commissioning where applicable.

Why the Exact Model, Control and Condition Matter to a Lender

Tsugami model naming can be dense. A single omitted suffix can hide a different axis count, back-spindle setup or B-axis configuration. The exact Fanuc control, model suffix, bar capacity and tooling should be on the quote.

What You'll Need to Finance the Machine

Start with the complete machine quote or purchase agreement. Useful information includes the exact machine model and year, serial number, seller or dealer, purchase price, control make and generation, maximum bar capacity and guide-bush configuration, spindle hours when available, main and sub-spindle condition, live tooling and driven-tool configuration, bar feeder and material-handling equipment, included tooling and workholding, an inspection or running video for used machines, rigging and freight, installation and training costs, business information and ownership, and a brief explanation of the parts and production volume the machine will support. Qualifying smaller transactions may be eligible for application-only financing. Larger or more complex machine acquisitions may require additional business and financial documentation.

Used-Machine Due Diligence Before Closing

Before a used Swiss or Swiss-style machine closes, the buyer should reconcile the dealer quote with the physical machine. Confirm the serial plate, control, bar capacity, spindle configuration and every option that materially affects the production plan. Run the main spindle and sub spindle through their useful speed ranges, index or move every tool group and test live tools under load when practical. A machine that powers up but cannot demonstrate its back-working, B-axis or live-tool functions should not be documented as though those systems were proven.

The tooling inventory deserves its own line-by-line review. Swiss tooling can include guide bushings, collets, driven-tool holders, cross-working units, thread-whirling attachments and proprietary cartridges. Missing holders can turn an attractive purchase price into a larger commissioning bill. The bar feeder should be identified by model and serial number and the buyer should confirm that the channel set or conversion parts match the stock diameters it intends to run.

Finally, build the move into the transaction. Seller-side deinstallation, rigging, freight, buyer-side unloading, leveling, electrical work, coolant fill, bar-feeder alignment and machine startup are real costs. If the machine is expected to run unattended, include high-pressure coolant, mist collection, fire suppression and parts handling where required by the shop's process and safety plan.

How the Machine Earns Its Keep

The financing case is strongest when the shop connects the machine configuration to a measurable production constraint. Swiss equipment is often justified by a family of parts rather than one isolated job. The buyer may be moving work from cam automatics, reducing secondary milling, replacing several older machines or adding unattended capacity for a contract that already has repeat demand. Material remnant, operator intervention, tool life, chip control, inspection frequency and changeover time all influence the economics of a Swiss cell, and the application should state the part family, approximate bar diameters, materials, expected production pattern and whether the machine is replacing equipment or expanding capacity.
