Understanding the Shimadzu Gas Chromatograph Lineup
Shimadzu currently identifies the Nexis GC-2060 as its latest flagship gas chromatograph. The financing quote should state all inlets, detectors and automation, and full 2060 configuration and specs should be confirmed before purchase.
The compact Brevis GC-2050 supports dual-line analysis and up to two inlets and three detectors in current Shimadzu documentation. Compatible detectors include FID, FPD, TCD and ECD. It can also serve as the GC front end for the GCMS-QP2050.
The Nexis GC-2030 remains a current configurable GC platform for petrochemical, pharmaceutical, environmental, food and forensic applications. Detector and inlet configuration drive the actual asset description.

Upgrades can involve replacing older GC-2010 equipment, adding dual-line analysis with Brevis or moving to the new GC-2060 platform. Explain whether the driver is throughput, detector capability, carrier-gas flexibility or supportability.
Buying Direct, From a Dealer or From a Private Seller
A new Shimadzu system purchased through Shimadzu or an authorized channel generally comes with a detailed quote that identifies the instrument and major options. Used equipment dealers are a normal acquisition channel for analytical instruments and can often provide inspection, testing, refurbishment and warranty information. Private-party purchases can potentially be financed but usually require additional verification of ownership, serial number, location, condition and price. Equipment Generation and Configuration Deep Dive
Shimadzu's GC history matters because several generations remain active in laboratories and on the secondary market. The GC-2010 Plus preceded the GC-2010 Pro while the Tracera platform appeared as a high-sensitivity GC-BID solution. Nexis GC-2030 followed as a newer general-purpose platform. The compact Brevis GC-2050 and newer Nexis GC-2060 belong to the current generation. A used buyer should therefore identify the exact chassis rather than assuming "Shimadzu GC" describes one common architecture.
Detector configuration is one of the biggest value differences. A GC can be configured with FID, TCD, ECD or other detectors depending on the application. Shimadzu's Tracera configuration is especially notable for the barrier discharge ionization detector, which Shimadzu describes as capable of detecting many compounds that are difficult for conventional universal detectors. A GC-BID system is therefore not equivalent to a basic GC-FID even if both use similar capillary columns.
Inlet configuration matters too. Split/splitless, packed-column or application-specific inlets can change what methods the GC can run. A laboratory may also need dual inlets or multiple detectors. A quote should show the installed channels because a heavily configured GC can carry substantially more value than the base oven and controller.
Autosampling and sample introduction can turn a GC into a specialized workstation. Headspace, liquid autosampling, gas sampling and application-specific valve systems can be central to the method. A refinery-gas analyzer or permanent-gas configuration should not be valued as though it were a standard benchtop GC with an autosampler.
Software generation is another used-market issue. LabSolutions GC and third-party CDS integration can depend on model, interface and firmware. A used GC with no workstation or transferable software may require additional cost before it is productive.
Why Configuration Changes the Financing File
A lender should know the GC model, detector package, inlet configuration, autosampler and application hardware because those components determine both capability and collateral value. A Nexis GC-2030 with multiple detectors and headspace sampling is a different asset from a GC-2014 configured for basic routine FID work.
Condition review should include oven performance, inlet pneumatics, electronic pressure control, detector condition, autosampler operation and leak testing. For ECD-equipped systems, the buyer should also confirm any applicable source-handling and regulatory requirements associated with that detector configuration before publication or use.
Gas supply is part of commissioning. Carrier and detector gases may require cylinders or generators, regulators, purification and safety hardware. A laboratory moving from helium to hydrogen or another carrier strategy should document the actual planned setup.
Building a Complete GC Financing Package
Provide the GC model and serial number, all installed inlets and detectors, autosampler, headspace or valve hardware, workstation, LabSolutions license and any application-specific columns or kits included. For used equipment, include detector status, inlet maintenance, EPC testing, autosampler service, oven verification and dealer refurbishment documentation.
If the project includes gas generators, regulators, gas purification, benches, UPS equipment, headspace sampling or installation, include those quotes. For multi-GC projects, list each system configuration separately so the lender can see that the transaction is a group of identifiable analytical assets rather than one undifferentiated equipment total.
Why the Exact Model and Configuration Matter to a Lender
A Brevis GC-2050 with dual lines and multiple detectors is not the same collateral as a basic GC-2014. The lender needs the exact configured system and seller documentation.

Useful information includes the exact model and complete configuration, vendor or seller, purchase price, new, used or refurbished condition, serial number and year when available, operating condition and service records for used equipment, software, workstation and major accessories, installation and qualification costs when included, business information and ownership, a brief explanation of how the equipment will be used, inlet and detector configuration, and carrier-gas configuration. Qualifying smaller transactions may be eligible for application-only financing. Larger or more complex acquisitions may require additional business and financial documentation.
Generation-Specific Review for Used GC Systems
Shimadzu's GC timeline is useful when reviewing secondary-market equipment because GC-2010 Plus, Tracera, Nexis GC-2030 and GC-2010 Pro systems can all appear in active laboratories. A used buyer should preserve the exact model name and detector configuration rather than shortening all of them to GC-2010 or Shimadzu GC.
The detector can be more important than the chassis generation. A Tracera system is associated with barrier discharge ionization detection while routine systems may be configured with FID, TCD or ECD. Multiple detectors and dual-inlet configurations can add significant value. Confirm detector electronics, gases, columns and autosampler hardware included with the sale.
Pneumatics and leak integrity should be part of the used inspection. Test electronic pressure control, inlet pressure stability, oven temperature performance and detector ignition or response as applicable. Autosampler repeatability and syringe condition should also be checked. For specialized valve systems or permanent-gas configurations, obtain the flow diagram and valve configuration if available because recreating an undocumented application package can be difficult after the machine leaves the seller's lab.
