Shimadzu's current ICPE-9800 Series includes the ICPE-9810 and ICPE-9820. Both are simultaneous ICP emission spectrometers but the viewing configuration differs, which matters when a laboratory is choosing or financing a system. Understanding the Shimadzu ICP-OES Lineup

Shimadzu specifies the ICPE-9810 as the axial-view model in the ICPE-9800 Series. It is designed for simultaneous multi-element ICP optical emission analysis. A financing quote should identify the sample-introduction system, autosampler, software and any digestion equipment being acquired with it.

Shimadzu specifies the ICPE-9820 as the axial-and-radial-view model. That added viewing flexibility can matter for laboratories working across a wider concentration range. It should be identified specifically rather than described only as an ICPE-9800.

The 9800 series uses Shimadzu's mini-torch design. Consumables, argon infrastructure, chiller and sample preparation can affect the real project cost.

Current Systems vs. the Used and Secondary Market

Shimadzu's consumables resources still identify the ICPE-9000 Series, confirming a legacy installed base. Used-system financing should focus on exact model identity, condition, detector status, sample introduction, software and service history.

Financing a New System

A new ICPE system may be purchased for environmental metals, food testing, pharmaceutical elemental impurities, mining or industrial QC. Financing may preserve working capital for staffing, validation and sample preparation while the instrument is placed into service.

Financing a Used or Refurbished System

Used equipment can be financeable but the transaction should identify the actual asset rather than a generic instrument description. For a used purchase, prepare the exact manufacturer and model, serial number and year of manufacture when available, complete system configuration, current operating condition, service and preventive-maintenance history when available, software version and license status, computer and data system included in the sale, seller, dealer or private-party information, refurbishment, testing and warranty information, installation or qualification included in the purchase, complete purchase price and related equipment quotes, axial or axial/radial configuration, torch, nebulizer and spray chamber configuration, and autosampler, chiller and argon setup. A detailed dealer quote, service history when available and a clear description of what has been tested or refurbished can make the equipment easier to evaluate. Older equipment may require additional condition, support or valuation documentation.

Upgrading or Adding Capacity

A laboratory may move from a legacy ICPE-9000-generation system into an ICPE-9810 or 9820 to improve supportability, workflow or viewing flexibility. Explain the business reason rather than simply saying the old machine is being replaced.

Buying Direct, From a Dealer or From a Private Seller

A new Shimadzu system purchased through Shimadzu or an authorized channel generally comes with a detailed quote that identifies the instrument and major options. Used equipment dealers are a normal acquisition channel for analytical instruments and can often provide inspection, testing, refurbishment and warranty information. Private-party purchases can potentially be financed but usually require additional verification of ownership, serial number, location, condition and price. Auction purchases should be discussed before bidding because payment and removal timelines can be short.

Don't Forget the Supporting Equipment

Supporting equipment can include autosampling, a chiller, microwave digestion, acid digestion, ultrapure water, fume handling, gas infrastructure, workstation, software, UPS, installation and qualification.

Equipment Generation and Configuration Deep Dive

The ICPE-9800 family is more specific than a generic "Shimadzu ICP-OES" description. Shimadzu identifies the ICPE-9810 as an axial-view system while the ICPE-9820 supports both axial and radial observation. Both use the mini-torch platform and an echelle spectrometer with a CCD detector covering the instrument's simultaneous wavelength range. The 9820's dual-view capability is particularly relevant for laboratories that need to measure trace and higher-concentration elements within the same broader workflow.

That optical configuration changes the application profile. Axial viewing is commonly selected when sensitivity is the priority. Radial viewing can be useful for higher concentrations or more difficult matrices. A 9820 that can switch between viewing modes is therefore a different analytical asset from a 9810 even though both belong to the ICPE-9800 family.

Sample-introduction configuration can also change the system materially. Shimadzu application documentation shows ICPE-9820 systems configured with hydrofluoric-acid-resistant sample introduction and organic-solvent torches for difficult battery-electrolyte work. Other laboratories may use ultrasonic nebulization or standard aqueous sample introduction. A used instrument should be described with the actual torch, nebulizer, spray chamber and pump configuration included in the sale.

The mini-torch is a generation-level operating distinction because it is designed to reduce argon consumption relative to larger conventional plasma torches. That affects operating economics but it also means the buyer should verify that the correct torch hardware and consumables are present. A stripped used system with missing sample-introduction components is not equivalent to a complete operational ICPE.

Software and autosampling are also part of the asset. ICPEsolution software, workstation configuration and autosampler capacity can affect throughput. If a laboratory is replacing an older ICPE-9000-series system, the new system may also require method transfer, validation and retraining rather than a simple hardware swap.

Why Configuration Changes the Financing File

A lender needs to distinguish a 9810 axial-view system from a 9820 dual-view system because the capability and likely purchase price can differ. It also needs to know whether the quote includes only the spectrometer or a complete package with autosampler, chiller, gas handling, sample-preparation equipment and software.

For used equipment, condition review should address plasma ignition, RF generator operation, optical condition, detector performance, torch and sample-introduction condition, peristaltic pump operation, gas controls and autosampler function. Service history can be especially helpful when a system has handled high-salt, organic or corrosive matrices.

The use case should be concrete. A drinking-water laboratory running many elements at once has a different throughput requirement from a metals laboratory analyzing plating baths or a battery laboratory handling organic and HF-generating matrices. That context explains why the buyer needs a particular viewing configuration and accessory package.

Building a Complete ICP-OES Financing Package

Provide the exact ICPE model, serial number, year when available, viewing configuration, autosampler, torch and sample-introduction hardware, chiller, exhaust, gas package, workstation and software. Include microwave digestion, acid-resistant accessories, ultrasonic nebulization or other application-specific equipment if it is part of the purchase.

For used equipment, include service records, recent performance or wavelength-calibration documentation when available, torch and nebulizer condition, pump history, detector or optical service history and a clear dealer refurbishment statement. Installation should identify who handles deinstallation, freight, recommissioning, gas connection and method verification.

Why the Exact Model and Configuration Matter to a Lender

The 9810 and 9820 differ in viewing configuration and a legacy 9000-series system belongs to another generation. The model helps the lender understand age, application, configuration and secondary-market comparables.

Start with the complete equipment quote. Useful information includes the exact model and complete configuration, vendor or seller, purchase price, new, used or refurbished condition, serial number and year when available, operating condition and service records for used equipment, software, workstation and major accessories, installation and qualification costs when included, business information and ownership, and a brief explanation of how the equipment will be used. Qualifying smaller transactions may be eligible for application-only financing. Larger or more complex acquisitions may require additional business and financial documentation.

Generation-Specific Review for Used ICPE Systems

The ICPE-9800 family has remained visible in Shimadzu application literature for years so age should be established from the serial number and service record rather than inferred from the model alone. An ICPE-9820 purchased used may have spent its life on relatively clean water samples or on high-salt, plating, battery or organic matrices. Those histories can place very different demands on the torch, sample-introduction system and interface components.

The 9810 versus 9820 distinction should remain explicit throughout the quote. The 9810 is axial-view while the 9820 adds axial and radial viewing. On a 9820, demonstrate that the observation switching and software functions operate correctly. For specialized matrices, inventory any HF-resistant, organic-solvent or ultrasonic-nebulizer hardware because those packages may not be present on a standard aqueous system.

A dealer refurbishment should state whether it includes RF and plasma testing, wavelength and sensitivity checks, pump service, autosampler testing and replacement of worn sample-introduction consumables. If the laboratory is transferring established methods from an older ICPE generation, include method transfer and verification time in the project rather than assuming the new system can be dropped into production without analytical work.
